An Annotated Bibliography: Great Help!
What is it?
An annotated bibliography is a short summary, description or conclusion of any consulted source (a book, an article, a paper, an investigation, etc) that has been cited to produce a new piece of writing. Its name also defines the term: it is a combination of a bibliographic reference and an annotation
Where is it?
A writer includes the annotated bibliography in the Reference section of his/her own pieces of writing just below the bibliographic reference. These must always be ordered alphabetically.
How to Write it?
Although there are different types of annotated bibliographies, all of them have in common the fact that they are written in the third person, academic vacabulary is used, complete/full sentences are used and the bibliographic citation follows a standard format. Remember that you should not include so many sentences, just between three or six.
Why is it so useful?
It is useful for the writer because it is a way of keeping a record of the sources consulted and of evaluating the relevance of the material. Moreover, it is of great help for the readers of our writings as they can decide whether to consult or not the source for further reading.
